ENERGY STAR v3.2 / v1.2 Implementation Date Extended to 1/1/2025 for Connecticut, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington

In April 2023, the EPA announced a transition to National Version 3.2 of the ENERGY STAR Single-Family New Homes Program and Version 1.2 of the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction Program in Connecticut, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington. Now, the EPA believes it is appropriate to delay the transition to the new versions one additional year to January 1, 2025.

For Connecticut, New Jersey, Oregon, Vermont*, and Washington*:

  • Single-family homes permitted on or after January 1, 2025, will be required to use National Version 3.2 of the ENERGY STAR Single-Family New Homes (SFNH) program requirements to be certified.
  • Multifamily buildings permitted on or after January 1, 2025, will be required to use National Version 1.2 of the ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction (MFNC) program requirements to be certified.

*Due to the stringency of the codes adopted by Vermont and Washington, the EPA intends to introduce additional requirements for these states beyond the base SFNH v3.2 and MFNC v1.2 program requirements. These will be implemented concurrently with the above timeline, and additional details will be provided soon.
