Aug 26, 2025 National Recognition Grows for NGBS Green Certification
The latest NGBS Green Policy Roundup from Home Innovation Research Labs highlights promising developments in green building policy at both federal and state levels. Homes certified by the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) are designed for superior energy and water efficiency, helping reduce utility costs and environmental impact while enhancing indoor comfort and air quality.
Federal agencies like HUD and USDA now recognize the 2021 IECC and ASHRAE 90.1-2019 for financed projects, while continuing to accept NGBS Green as a valid compliance pathway. ENERGY STAR remains funded through FY26, though its long-term stability will depend on future EPA priorities. At the state level, Arizona, Georgia, Ohio, and South Carolina are reaffirming or expanding support for third-party green building programs like NGBS Green in their Qualified Allocation Plans (QAPs), particularly for affordable housing initiatives.
These updates reflect growing momentum for the NGBS Green program and reinforce its credibility as a rigorous, third-party certification that promotes efficiency, sustainability, and healthier living. ICS Inspectors is proud to participate in NGBS Green. While we take on only select projects under this program, we celebrate the progress being made and the broader recognition NGBS Green is receiving across the housing industry.
